Radiology
NextHealth CareIncluded in Care Clinics Pro and Care Hospitals, and an add-on for Care Clinics
Imaging often lives in three places: the request in one system, the images in the PACS and the report somewhere else. NextHealth Care connects them in the patient's record. Requests reach the modality worklist so technologists start with the right patient and examination, studies link to PACS through DICOM, and radiologists report from structured templates. Radiation dose is captured with each study, and turnaround and backlog are visible at any moment.
What it covers
- Modality worklist, DICOM integration, PACS linkage
- Structured reporting with templates and addenda
- Radiation dose recording per study
- Turnaround and reporting backlog measurement
Radiation dose should be recorded for every single study
Radiology workflow connected to the patient record
A doctor in clinic orders a chest X-ray. The request appears on the modality worklist with the patient's details already filled in, so the radiographer retypes nothing. The radiologist reports from a template, and the doctor opens both the report and the images from the same visit.
Structured templates make reports consistent and quicker to produce, and any change after sign-off is added as an addendum, so the original report is preserved. Urgent requests stand out in the reporting queue, so the studies that matter most are read first.
Radiation dose is recorded as part of each study rather than in a separate log, a requirement in many regulatory frameworks that is often missed. Reporting turnaround and backlog are measured continuously, so the department can plan reporting sessions and show exactly how it is performing. Radiologists spend their time reading images, not retyping details or searching for the request that explains why a study was ordered.
How the radiology information system works in NextHealth Care
A radiology information system (RIS) manages imaging requests, reporting and dose records, and works with a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) that stores the images. In NextHealth Care, the RIS is part of the patient record.
- Request. The clinician orders the examination from the consultation.
- Worklist. The request reaches the modality worklist, so the technologist starts with the right patient and examination.
- Acquire. The study is stored in PACS through DICOM, and radiation dose is recorded.
- Report. The radiologist reports from a structured template, with addenda for later changes.
- Deliver. The report and images are opened from the patient's visit, and turnaround and backlog are tracked.

Questions we get asked
-
Radiology is included in Care Clinics Pro and Care Hospitals, and can be added to Care Clinics.
-
Yes. Studies are linked to PACS through DICOM, so images can be reached from the patient's record.
-
Yes. Radiologists report from templates, which keeps reports consistent and quicker to write, and changes after sign-off are added as addenda.
-
Yes. Dose is recorded for each study as part of the imaging workflow.
-
Yes. Turnaround and the backlog of studies awaiting a report are measured continuously and visible to the department.
-
No. Requests reach the modality worklist with patient and examination details, so the correct study is started without retyping.
