One record, wherever the work happens
Eight objects exist once across the whole suite. A patient registered in Engage is the same patient Care treats and the same patient the ledger bills, because there is one record rather than three products agreeing to keep copies in step.
Integration is not the same thing as one record
Products that integrate agree to copy data to each other and to argue about which copy is right. Products on one spine do not have copies. The patient, the clinician, the facility and the ledger entry are single rows that every product reads and writes.

What that changes
The spine is not an architecture diagram for its own sake. Four things follow from it that a suite of separate products cannot offer.
- One patient identity
- A patient is one record across every facility in the group, every channel and every product. There is no matching step, because there was never a second record to match.
- A licence expiry is a clinical control
- One staff record carries licence, credential, privilege, competency and roster. The clinical product checks the same record the workforce product maintains.
- The facility is the unit
- Currency, tax rule, regulator, timezone and entitlement all hang off the facility, so a group operating in two countries runs two regimes without running two systems.
- One register of corrective actions
- An incident, a complaint, an audit finding and a survey gap all raise an action in the same register, which is what a surveyor asks to see.
