e-Prescribing
NextHealth CareIncluded in every Care product
Medication errors are among the most serious and most preventable in healthcare. NextHealth Care builds the safety check into the act of prescribing. As soon as a medicine is chosen, it is checked against the patient's allergies and everything already on the prescription, with findings graded by severity and explained in plain words. Severe findings need an audited override, and dose, frequency, duration and quantity come from clear pick lists, so pharmacists receive complete instructions every time.
What it covers
- Formulary-bound prescribing with dose, route, frequency and duration
- Allergy, interaction, duplicate therapy and dose-range checking
- Paediatric weight-based dosing and renal adjustment prompts
- Controlled substance handling with the regulator's requirements
- Medication administration record for inpatients, with time-stamped nursing entry
- Medication reconciliation at admission, transfer and discharge
Alerts that matter stand out, so clinicians never ignore them
Safer electronic prescribing, built into the consultation
A doctor prescribes ibuprofen for a headache and, out of habit, reaches for diclofenac as well. Before anything is saved, the screen shows a major interaction, duplicate anti-inflammatory therapy, with the risk spelled out. The doctor removes it and adds paracetamol as needed instead. The mistake never reaches the patient.
Alert fatigue is a real risk: when every warning looks the same, clinicians learn to click past them. NextHealth Care grades findings by severity, so a major interaction stands out from a minor note, and severe findings cannot be waved through without a recorded reason. It is best-in-class medication safety that clinicians notice mainly because errors stop reaching patients.
Each item is complete by design, with dose, frequency, route, duration, quantity, as-needed use and patient instructions, so pharmacists are never left guessing. A typical prescription is written in under a minute, and it flows straight into the patient's current medications for every future visit.
How electronic prescribing works in NextHealth Care
Electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) replaces handwritten prescriptions with structured, checked medication orders. In NextHealth Care, prescribing sits inside the consultation and is linked to the formulary, the patient's allergies and current medicines, and the pharmacy.
Search the formulary. The doctor finds the medicine by generic or brand name, with its form and route shown.
Run the safety check. On selection, it is checked against the patient's allergies and the other medicines on the prescription, with findings graded by severity.
Complete the instruction. Dose, frequency, route, duration, quantity, as-needed use, substitution and patient instructions are recorded.
Override only with a reason. Severe findings need an audited override before the medicine can be added.
Send to the pharmacy. The prescription stays with the visit, joins the patient's current medications and is ready for dispensing.

Questions we get asked
-
e-Prescribing is included in every Care product: Care Clinics, Care Clinics Pro and Care Hospitals.
-
Yes. Every medicine is checked against the patient's recorded allergies and the other medicines on the prescription as soon as it is chosen, with findings graded by severity.
-
Only when they should. Findings are graded, so minor notes do not interrupt the way a major interaction does, which keeps alerts meaningful and prescribing quick.
-
Yes, with a reason. Severe findings require an audited override, so every decision to proceed is recorded and can be reviewed.
-
Each item records dose, frequency, route, duration, quantity, whether it is taken as needed and instructions for the patient, so the pharmacy has everything it needs to dispense.
-
Yes. Whether substitution is allowed is set per item, so the pharmacy knows when a generic equivalent can be dispensed.
