Health data exchange

NextHealth Care

Part of the regulatory pack where your facility is licensed

Sending data to a national exchange is the easy part; knowing what failed and why is what matters. NextHealth Care gives every encounter a submission status and keeps rejected messages in a work queue with the reason returned and a clear way to correct and resend. Data is exchanged as HL7 v2 messages and FHIR R4 resources, coded with SNOMED CT, LOINC and ICD, and devices and analysers feed results straight into the record.

What it covers

  • HL7 v2 messaging and FHIR R4 resources
  • National exchange submission with per-encounter status: submitted, pending, rejected with reason
  • Terminology: SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD, regional code sets
  • Device and analyser interfacing
  • Submission rate as a live metric, not a monthly discovery
Why it is hard to do well

Knowing which submissions failed, and why, is what matters

Healthcare interoperability you can monitor every day

On Monday morning the integration lead opens the submission dashboard. Almost all of last week's encounters were accepted, and a dozen were rejected for a missing field. She opens the queue, sees each reason, the missing details are completed and the messages are resent before lunch.

Standards-based exchange means NextHealth Care can work with the national health information exchanges used across the GCC and with the other systems a facility depends on, using HL7 v2, FHIR R4 and standard terminologies such as SNOMED CT, LOINC and ICD.

Analysers and medical devices can be interfaced so results arrive without manual entry, removing a common source of transcription error. The submission rate is shown as a live measure for each facility, so managers know where they stand every day rather than finding out from a monthly report. Integration staff work from one dashboard, with no need to log into several exchange portals to see what happened.

How health data exchange works in NextHealth Care

Healthcare interoperability is the exchange of clinical data between systems using shared standards. In NextHealth Care, an integration layer sends and receives data as HL7 v2 messages and FHIR R4 resources and tracks every submission to a national health information exchange.

  1. Code the data. Diagnoses, results and procedures are coded with SNOMED CT, LOINC and ICD.
  2. Send. Encounters are submitted to the national exchange in the required format.
  3. Track. Each submission shows as submitted, pending or rejected with a reason.
  4. Fix and resend. Rejected messages wait in a queue with a clear path to correct and resend them.
  5. Connect devices. Analysers and devices are interfaced, and the submission rate is shown live.

Questions we get asked
