Inpatients and beds
NextHealth CareIncluded in Care Hospitals
Bed management only works when the board is right. A bed shown as free while it is still being cleaned costs time at the busiest moment of the day. NextHealth Care updates the board with every admission, transfer and discharge and shows occupancy at a glance. Admitted patients wait on the board until staff drag them onto a free bed, and discharge brings the clinical summary, medication and billing together at a single point.
What it covers
- Admission, transfer, discharge with a live bed board
- Bed classification, isolation status, housekeeping state
- Daily rounds, progress notes, consultant handover
- Discharge summary generation from the encounter record
- Discharge medication and follow-up scheduled before departure
- Estimated versus actual length of stay
Discharge is where the clinical record and the bill meet
Bed management with a live, accurate bed board
An emergency admission arrives late at night. The charge nurse opens the bed board, sees two clean beds on the medical ward and drags the patient onto one. The bed shows as occupied for everyone instantly, and the admitting doctor can start orders straight away.
Admission captures the admitting and attending doctor, department, admission type and provisional diagnosis in one short form. Beds carry their class and status, including isolation and housekeeping, so placement decisions are quick and safe.
Discharge is prepared from the inpatient record: the summary is generated from the encounter, discharge medication is reconciled and the follow-up is booked before the patient leaves. Because the clinical record and the final bill are completed at the same point, charges are not missed and patients are not kept waiting for paperwork. Estimated and actual length of stay are tracked for every admission, giving managers a clear view of flow through the wards.
How bed management works in NextHealth Care
Bed management software tracks the status of every hospital bed and each patient's admission, transfer and discharge, often called ADT. In NextHealth Care, the bed board and the inpatient record are one system, so the board always reflects what is happening on the wards.
- Admit. A patient is admitted from a consultation or directly, with admitting and attending doctor, department, admission type, source and provisional diagnosis.
- Place. The patient waits on the bed board and is dragged onto a free bed, or a bed is chosen at admission.
- Care. Rounds, progress notes, the nursing record and medication rounds are kept in the inpatient chart.
- Transfer. Moves between beds or wards are recorded against the stay.
- Discharge. The summary is generated, medication reconciled, follow-up booked and the final bill prepared, and the bed moves to cleaning.
